Businessman ambushed by four heavily armed men while driving

A 64-year-old businessman and brother of former San Pablo City Mayor Vicente Amante was ambush by four unidentified heavily armed men while driving his Toyota Innova on the highway of Bgy. Del Remedio, San Pablo City, yesterday afternoon.

Supt. Ronan Claravall, San Pablo City police chief, said identified the victim as Damaso Amante, of Cardil Village, Bgy. Del Remedioy. Amante sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died while being rushed to Pagamutang Panlalawigan ng Laguna in San Pablo City. Amante ran for congressman in the 3rd district of Laguna but lost in 2016 elections. The unidentified suspects were on board three vehicles -- a maroon Toyota Innova, a van and a motorcycle without plate number -- which escaped toward Calauan twon right after they peppered the white Toyota Innova WCO-502 driven by Amante while on his way home.

Investigation disclosed that at 1:20 p.m., the victim came from his building in Bgy. Magdalena and travelling along the provincial road going to Bgy. Del Remedio where the four heavily armed men fired at his car successively, causing the vehicle to go wayward until it bumped a parked passenger jitney. Police recovered at the crime scene more than 30 empty shells for M-16 rifle and 9mm pistol scattered in the middle of the highway.
