NPA rebels struck again setting construction trucks on fire

Suspects believed to be New People’s Army (NPA) rebels struck anew and set ablaze construction trucks and farm equipment and produce in separate incidents in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur Friday, police reported yesterday.

A report coming from Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) said that some 100 fully armed NPAs swooped down on a construction site at 9 p.m. and set on fire two boom trucks, two trucks and a 10-wheeler truck at Barangay Bunaguit, about 21 kilometers from the town proper of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.

Fortunately, none of the workers was harmed during the incident, PRO 13-Regional Public Information Officer (RPIO) Supt. Danield L. Peusca said, quoting the initial report from Agusan del Sur PPO.

He added the perpetrators immediately fled towards the municipal border of San Luis and Esperanza after the incident.

Peusca also said the marauders were believed to be members of the CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NMRC), he said.

In a separate incident in Sitio Surok, Barangay Amag in Bayabas, Surigao del Sur, a container van loaded with bananas and owned by DOLE, Philippines was on its way to Davao City from Tago town when about 30 heavily-armed men, also suspected to be NPA combatants, ambushed it at around 5:40 p.m., also Friday.

Peusca said the suspects strafed the container van before burning it.

After the incident, the perpetrators immediately fled towards the nearby mountainous area of Amag.

The driver and his helper were not harmed during the incident, the PRO 13-RPIO said.
